It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the Maine Coon is the largest breed of domesticated cat in the world. Their physical appearance is almost like a miniature lion!
Those magnificent series of photographs taken by Robert Sijka show the natural beauty of these very large cats!
Sijka describes Maine Coon cats as enigmatic and mystical beasts.
“My passions are cats and photography, I do my best to combine these two things as good as possible,” says the photographer.
“I got the inspiration for this series from a photo of Dolce Vita and De La Loo – two of the most majestic black Maine Coons… photographed beautifully on a simple black background”, Robert added.
“I found great pleasure in taking pictures. Playing with cats and taking their pictures gave me a lot of joy. I decided that my pictures shouldn’t look like all other beautiful cat pictures, they must be something special. I started experimenting with light, backgrounds, and retouching.”
Maine Coons are also known as the “gentle giants” and having above-average intelligence makes them easy to train.
“The best way to get the cat’s attention is playing with them, we play a lot! We do a lot of hunting and toy chasing.”
“The main thing for me is to capture the face expression, I love their eyes and emotions which flow from them. I’m always waiting for that one special moment when a cat gives me this one perfect look. As you can see mostly I use dark and simple backgrounds to direct all attention to the cat.”
Their size isn’t something to worry about, as Maine Coons are very gentle breed and also very comfortable around dogs, other cats and children.
